Focused on the role that writing plays in both teaching and learning, the Institute works with teachers and administrators to develop workshops that are intellectually stimulating, innovative, and practically useful to promote the highest level of transfer of new skills into the classroom. IWT has led professional development workshops–from one day to weeklong—for teachers at over 400 urban, suburban, rural, public and independent middle and high schools, and over 300 colleges and universities across the U.S. and internationally.

The typical on-site workshop is from one to three days in length. Practical, hands-on instruction in a collaborative learning environment demonstrates for teachers how they can continue to develop and put into practice what they learn in one or more successive workshops.
